Help Tenants

As individuals find housing we are badly in need of beds and mattresses in impeccable quality. One individual has found a home but is very concerned that he will not have a bed to sleep on when he moves in.

Tenants who are finding housing need small tables and chairs (should accommodate 2-4 people) for their dining areas and to begin to restore their lives.

We need small side tables for living, bathroom and bedroom spaces. With storage preferred, this will help a lot. 

Tenants need kitchen and household appliances to restore their lives and exist independently and comfortably. This includes: toasters, kettles, blenders, coffee makers and other kitchen items. For other rooms, this includes hair dryers, irons and radios.

Byron, the tenant most seriously injured in the fire at 828 Shaw Street, is an avid desktop/PC gamer. While he has not asked for these items, we know that he would find pleasure in resuming this activity and will need great gear to do so comfortably with his injuries. If this community is able to do so, we would like to offer him a gaming system that would include:

• gaming chair

• high performance PC

• peripherals 

• ergonomic mouse and keyboard as comfort will be particularly challenging for him

We are not expert gamers and the community will likely know more about what would be right for him than we do. Please share your expertise!

We need an extra-large winter jacket in excellent condition for an injured tenant.

We need men's winter boots SIZE 10 1/2 (black preferred) that are step-in style, and do not need to be laced/unlaced. This tenant is seriously injured and cannot bend down to lace or pull on these boots. 

We are looking for winter boots in sizes: 

• Women's size 6

• Women's size 7 - any style

• Women's size 10

Teenage siblings living in the building have requested women's winter boots in size 7, and would appreciate finding ones that fit their style:

• White or soft pink - furry if possible

• Black - furry if possible

• Slip on

A tenant who was able to leave with their cat is concerned about their cat's comfort as they move hotel to hotel, and would like to give their cat a cat tree in excellent condition. We are open to donations of new items from pet stores to ensure we deliver a hygenic and high quality item to this family.

We are looking for a women's robe in size XXL and slippers women's sized 9. Must be in nearly new or new condition and clean, thank you.

We are helping to coordinate donations for 13 households, who need clean, dry, properly sized items that can be moved easily. We are storing items in a garage and want to ensure they are free from pests and weather damage. If you have large plastic sealable storage bins we would greatly appreciate them.

One tenant is devastated to have lost their musical instrument. While this may not seem as urgent or essential, this was a needed support for this older individual who is isolated and managing mental illness. We hope the community can find one to offer needed comfort and hope.

Two people had to leave without needed eyeglasses, including a teenage girl who has been unable to read since the fire.

One of the residents, woken by firefighters, was not able to get her teeth before leaving. She has since retrieved them but they are badly damaged.

Protective masks, rapid tests and other gear will help ensure COVID safety for the 16 adults and one child displaced to temporary housing.

Two laptops are priority - one for a tenant who works online and has been out of work since the fire, and the other for a teenage student who needs it to work and study.

Most tenants had to leave without smartphones. We need fifteen phones to replace what's been lost and give critical connectivity back to these people.

All new, in-package socks in adult sizes, men and women are needed. 

New, in package underwear and socks are needed for these families who left with only the belongings on their backs. We need:

- Men sizes S, M, L, XL, XL, 2XL, 3XL

- Women size S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL

- Boys size M

Individuals and families who have lost their homes and ability to work are isolated and looking for cards, adult colouring books, board games and puzzles. Excellent condition only.
